Janata Mahavidyalaya

Janata Mahavidyalaya, Chandrapur, the NAAC accredited institute with B++ Grade (2.95 CGPA), was established by Chanda Shikshan Prasarak Mandal in 1958 by Late Shri. Shrihari Jiwatode Guruji. He lit the lamp of education in this tribal region and his aim was to develop and spread a passion for learning among children of socially and economically backward sections of the society. The foundation stone was laid down by the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra Hon’ble Shri Yashwant Rao Chawan. The college was started with only 150 students. Initially, undergraduate courses in Arts and Commerce were introduced and later in the year 1961, UG courses in Science were also started. As the college grew several courses were introduced and buildings were added successively. In the year 1971 Post Graduate course in Commerce and consecutively in 1980 PG course in Economics and English were also introduced. Considering the changing trends and advancement in the field of science and technology the management felt necessary to introduce the subjects like Computer Science, Micro-biology, Bio-technology, Fishery, Sericulture, Electronics, Information-Technology and Bio-chemistry. The college also started Post-graduate degree Courses in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Biotechnology, Micro-biology and Computer Science. The old hierarchies and rigid structures are fast disappearing, Knowledge is the greatest resource today and applied, skill-based and lifelong learning is the demand of the day. Keeping this in view and to make students excel in the dynamic and global environment, the institution started capability enhancement courses like, Short-Term Certificate Course in Spoken English, Banking and Insurance, Introduction to Radiotherapy and Its Application, Fish Aquarium Development and Techniques, Digital Design, Mehendi Design, MS-Office, Nursery & Gardening and Analytical Chemistry.

The youth of today understand that quality is never an accident; it is always the result of intelligent effort that will help them unleash their innate potentialities, acquire useful skills and become productive, creative and responsible citizens. The college is well equipped for that, the teachers are totally committed to educate the youth in an exemplary manner, and remain useful to the society by assiduously participating in the arduous tasks of nation building.
